Worked example. Change the dates to calculate your own.
Both the start and end dates are included.
- Exclusive day difference
- 85
- Elapsed hours
- Not calculated from date-only inputs
Counts both the start and end dates. A same-day span is one calendar date. This is not an elapsed-hour calculation.
Dates stay in this page. No account, uploads or server calculation.
How this calculation works
The tool adds one to the forward date difference to include both dates. A same-day range is one date. The end must be on or after the start. Clock times do not enter the calculation.
A worked example
October 2 through October 4, 2026 covers Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That is three calendar dates and two date transitions. October 2 through October 2 covers one date. Reversed dates need correction rather than producing a misleading negative inclusive span.
Compare an inclusive span with an exclusive difference
Both endpoint dates belong to an inclusive span. The tool requires a forward or same-date interval.
| Dates in October 2026 | Inclusive count |
|---|---|
| October 2 through October 2 | 1 date. |
| October 2 through October 3 | 2 dates. |
| October 2 through October 4 | 3 dates, but only 2 transitions. |
| October 4 through October 2 | Invalid order. Correct the inputs. |
